Composting is nominally a “good thing”, all things being equal. Unfortunately, the new application (13/01916/WCM) at Mopes Lane (technically at Parkgate Farm) to increase the composting tonnage to 50,000 tonnes per year comes at a cost. Since these extra tonnages are coming from the proposed tyre-shredding operation that never happened, it is also carrying over the additional Heavy Goods Vechicle movements from that proposal. This relentless increase in HGV movements is battering the local road feeding Mopes Lane, and carving up the verges. It is long overdue to call time […]

Widham Farm Appeal
With about four weeks notice, the date for the next Widham Farm Appeal is now set. It will be spread over three days; two at Trowbridge and, unusually a little closer to home, at Cricklade. The Trowbridge dates are 17 and 18 September and the Cricklade one is a week later on 24 September. As usual, each day begins at 10 am and if you want to speak then you have to register for this at 10 am on the day, even though you may not get called to speak […]
Going too fast?
A lot of people comment about speed. It is possible to re-designate streets. There is an opportunity to comment on the plan for Wiltshire Council’s Policy on 20 mph speed limits zones – before 21 September 2013. Wiltshire Council is seeking views on its draft policy for 20 mph speed restrictions. The draft policy covers both 20 mph zones and 20 mph speed limits and sets out the criteria to be used to identify and assess the locations where 20 mph restrictions could be introduced. The policy also sets out […]
Accessing Wiltshire Council Information
Yet another “portal” has opened up to help us all find useful information about Wiltshire Council. The latest is called “My Area” and is found on www.wiltshire.gov.uk. This adds to other key sources also produced by Wiltshire Council: the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade “Our Community Matters” for the Council and local groups to promote local events in various parts of the community area. Then there is the neighbourhood planning web site for Wiltshire but trying to get to our neighbourhood planning information from there is not intuitive at all. […]
Changing subscription method
I hope this will not be too inconvenient but the RSS subscription method has been a bit hit and miss lately and so the RSS will be discontinued in a day or two. Please could I ask you to re-subscribe via the Email Subscription. Please go to www.CarbonBrake.com and on the right-hand side, just below the picture banner you will see the Email Subscription. Apologies for any temporary inconvenience but this should lead to a far more reliable service. Thanks
Persimmons at Restrop
The flyer that Persimmons sent around to advertise their exhibition about their proposals was remarkably full of typos and missing words. Given that it was only a page and a half long, and they insisted calling the Parish Plan a Village Plan, it does not really auger well for their future diligence. It did all look a bit hasty though I suppose they were concerned about missing the development boat given the other two proposals (Widham and Jewel’s Ash). Despite the general haste evident in their proposals, their location has […]
What about Widham Farm?
Several have asked me about Widham Farm which seems to have disappeared off the radar? I can assure you it has not and it is just simmering below the surface. As you may recall, the previous application was refused by Wiltshire Council and then was the subject of an appeal. That appeal was dismissed by an Inspector (after strenuous local opposition). Then that decision was subsequently quashed by the High Court. As such the appeal against the refusal of planning permission must be re-heard through a further Inquiry. The Planning […]
Houses for Land off Restrop Road?
There will be an exhibition by Persimmon Homes, concerning proposals for 33 houses off Restrop Road, in the Village Hall between 3 – 8 pm on Thursday 18 July.
Object to Ridgeway Farm
I recently wrote something for the Swindon Link: http://www.swindonlink.com/news/the-ridgeway-farm-decision-where-local-democracy-died-a-little It was somewhat prescient given the recent planning applications put forward for Ridgeway Farm. Kevin Fisher, Chair of the Shaw Residents’ Association has done an excellent review of the allocated parking and likely on-road parking ~ accidents just waiting to happen. I encourage you to go to: http://www.shawresidents.org.uk/ridgeway-farm/ where the SRA has identified the key issues with respect to the current two applications, all relevant details on how to object are provided. We need to point out the flawed nature of this […]
